After an individual loses a significant amount of weight, there is often a loss of elasticity in the skin that causes it to sag and fold over. For many people, this can be a bothersome feature that exercise and healthy eating may not correct. In order to attain ideal results, they commonly turn to cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Katzen specializes in body contouring procedures that help patients rid themselves of excess skin and fat. He can create a personalized treatment plan to meet every patient’s needs.
Typically, incisions are made in the lower abdomen from hipbone to hipbone, the skin is separated from the underlying muscles, and Dr. Katzen tightens the muscles to produce a flatter, more slenderized appearance. The skin is then pulled down and any excess is trimmed away; a new opening for the belly button is made. Based on the amount of protrusion, Dr. Katzen may perform a traditional abdominoplasty, mini tummy tuck, extended abdominoplasty, circumferential tummy tuck, vertical, or inverted T.
Through small incisions in the target area(s), a cannula is used to break up fat and gently remove it from the body. Based on the location and amount of fat to be removed, the most appropriate technique will be chosen. Those available include tumescent, ultrasound assisted, Vaser, power-assisted, and SmartLipo. Many of these can reduce bleeding, bruising, and swelling post-surgery. Liposuction can be performed on the neck, arms, chest, abdomen, back, hips, buttocks, and thighs.
This procedure is ideal for all patients looking to achieve an “hourglass” figure, regardless of shape or size. Dr. Katzen makes incisions from the chest to the pubic bone or from the armpit to the hip on both sides. The “six pack” muscles are tightened and excess skin throughout the incision site is trimmed in order to provide a shapelier appearance.
