When an individual experiences massive weight loss, the skin is affected, typically leading to a loss of elasticity. This can cause sagging and an undesirable appearance in the arms, which may lead patients to feeling uncomfortable wearing certain tops. It is difficult to remedy sagging skin with natural means of weight loss such as dieting and exercise, which is why many opt to undergo a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. Dr. Katzen performs a variety of techniques to help patients achieve a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, while maintaining a natural look.

Techniques performed:

Crescent Lift

If you have minimal sagging in the arms, Dr. Katzen makes an incision in the armpit in the shape of a crescent from the front to the back of the armpit. Skin and fat are removed in order to lift and re-contour the arm to a more slender shape. Due to the location of the incision, scarring post-surgery is easily hidden.

Long Incision

Patients who have excess sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits may require this technique. First, liposuction is performed to remove excess fat. This is followed by making a long, vertical incision from the armpit to the elbow in order to trim away excess skin. A better-sculpted appearance may be anticipated.

Forearm Reduction

This procedure is similar to the long incision technique in the upper arm, but the incision is made from the elbow to the wrist. Liposuction is performed prior to excising the skin. Dr. Katzen can provide patients with a more slender shape with this procedure.

In many circumstances, your medical insurance may be able to cover the cost of this procedure. Further information regarding the surgery and any other concerns you may have can be obtained during a consultation.
